Family Picnic // KLCC Park

This is a throwback sharing but good things are meant to be shared any way, so it is made timeless.

When we mention about Kuala Lumpur City Centre, or more commonly known as KLCC, we will naturally think about the iconic twin towers, with a double decker skybridge connecting the two towers on the 41st and 42nd floors. The project itself serves as a multipurpose development area with upscale commercial outlets and shopping mall, luxury hotel establishments, all surrounded by green expanse of KLCC Park.

Visiting KLCC is not a common affair, though. To be exact, our family seldom visits this place, unless it's for a more specific purpose, such as visiting an exhibition, or just simply in the mood for a more "upscale" day out. One week after returning from Kansai region in Japan, we were in the mood for an outdoor picnic, again. We really missed the picnic we threw in Kobe. After an intense search across online websites, we ended up in KLCC Park. Genius.

A green spot in the city centre

As it was such an impromptu plan, we did not prepare any food for our picnic. BUT we wouldn't let that deter us. Before we headed out for the park, we dropped by Isetan supermarket to buy some takeaway food from its delicatessen section. The supermarket offers a wide variety of prepared food and ready meals, absolutely a saviour for last minute picnic like this.

Taking a stroll in KLCC Park is one of the most delightful activities to do in this area. Okay, maybe we should just ignore the late afternoon heat. The walking paths are stroller-friendly and lined with greenery on both sides.

At first, we thought it would be silly to spread out the picnic blanket in an urban park like this, so we found a bench under a shady tree and were so ready to call it a picnic.

It just didn't feel right. We took a look around and quickly decided to not be bothered by how people may perceive - so we moved nearer to the manmade lake, found ourselves a suitable spot and that was a genius idea.

The mat we bought is a waterproof one (link here), so we allowed Zyan to roll and crawl around. Hmm, this little boy does enjoy nature!

It was a relaxing evening. The food was not the best, but considering it was purchased from a delicatessen, I would say it was still pretty enjoyable. Nearby where we spread our blanket is a children's pool. A number of children were splashing away, giggling in pure joy. Zyan, the curious baby, would point at the water fountain and babble in a language we didn't understand.

As the sun rolled down, we cleaned up everything and began packing. KLCC Park is one of those places that you'd frequently heard of, pass by but often overlook. This park is well-maintained and I won't hesitate to plan another activity there again. (Please go away already, COVID-19).

If you're planning on a quick, simple and impromptu picnic, here're some tips on what to bring:

1⃣️ Food and beverages (Keep it simple or just buy it!)

2⃣ Picnic blanket (We prefer a waterproof one)

3⃣ Cutlery and container - It's wise to invest in a set of reusable, portable cutlery. As for container, buy those with compartments so you can use them for different kind of food.

4⃣ Garbage bags - Be a responsible and civilised picnicker - always clean before you leave.

5⃣ Insect repellent - Extra useful especially when the picnic spot is near a bush.

6⃣️ Wet wipes - We only find this to be so handy after babysitting Zyan for long enough.

It is exactly what we think. Whether a picnic with a splurge on food or simple one with just sandwiches and sodas, both will always make us happy.
