When the national dish is infused with some creativity, it becomes a creation we couldn't say no to.
To be frank, whenever I thought about nasi lemak in Damansara Uptown, the famous stall will always come in mind. Little did I know, there's a restaurant tucked away on the first floor of the busy Damansara Uptown shophouses serving nasi lemak. You might have passed by Mamalee countless times but did not notice such a hidden gem or perhaps you just did not want to climb the stairs (like us). We should have totally be a little bit more diligent.
The set up of the restaurant was simple and fuss-free, but functional. There wasn't any fancy decoration which was fine because it's the quality of food that matters. For those who prefer contactless payment, Mamalee will not disappoint you as they accept payment via e-wallets. To us, this was a great convenience because cashless payment is safer and definitely more hygienic.

Salted Egg Fried Chicken Nasi Lemak (RM12)
If you like salted egg yolk flavour, you'll find this a worthy trip to Damansara Uptown. The fried chicken was so thickly coated in salted egg yolk sauce and pleasantly complemented by the aromatic fragrance from curry leaves. At the price of RM12, we couldn't make any complaint - we had a chicken whole leg on the plate. This was really a good deal, I'd say, considering the location of the restaurant at the busy district of Petaling Jaya. The chicken was succulent, juicy and tender. A very satisfying bite into it. The nasi lemak wise was not too much a wow factor. We felt the rice lacked some santan fragrance, otherwise everything else was a good combination.
Crispy Rendang Chicken Nasi Lemak (RM13)
I love fried chicken. And I love rendang. When I browsed through the menu and found Crispy Rendang Chicken Nasi Lemak on board, I thought it was a smart approach. The nasi lemak was served with an extra bowl of kuah rendang. The fried chicken lived up to the word "crispy" because it was really battered appropriately and fried to perfect crisp. The most satisfying bit of this dish was to slit through the crispy chicken skin with fork and spoon - and then the juice from the chicken will surge through the cut. Any foodie would approve this. The chicken tasted slightly curried and spiced. The bowl of kuah rendang was a good addition but the chicken itself was already flavourful enough. We enjoyed everything to the last bite.
What do we think about Mamalee?
I feel I'd have a craving of returning to Mamalee in no time. Despite the delicious and creative addition to our usual nasi lemak, the price was very reasonable. The portion was moderate, but good enough to fill us up that noon. Service was prompt and as mentioned earlier, contactless payment was definitely a plus.
